Girls B7: Northwest & McCook Win Monday Night

(Grand Island, NE) - Class B girl's post-season basketball was in full force on Monday night at Northwest High School as the Vikings hosted the semi-finals of the B7 Sub District. 

In the first game, Northwest ran away from Lexington 59-21. The two teams would be deadlocked at 10 all at the end of the first quarter. Northwest would put the full-court press on even tighter in the 2nd quarter and end up forcing 36 total turnovers from the Minutemaids in the game. Northwest would lead 29-14 at the halftime break. In the third quarter, Northwest would hold Lexington scoreless with a 17-0 run to lead 46-14. The Vikings would outscore the Maids 13-7 in the final quarter to close out the game. The loss for Lexington would end their season with a record of 1-23. The Northwest girls are now 11-12 on the season advancing to the B7 sub-district final.

In the second semi-final, McCook would defeat Hastings by a final score of 55-46. The Bison would get a great start in the game with a 19-4 first quarter highlighted by 10 first-quarter points from Paige Bortner. Both teams would trade buckets left and right in the second quarter to each score 14 points for McCook to lead 33-18 at the half. Hastings would crawl back into the game only to trail by 10 at the end of three quarters, 38-28, as the Tigers would have a 10-5 frame. Hastings would cut the deficit down to six, 50-44, with 1:01 left in the game after the Tigers would hit back-to-back threes from Sophia Reynolds and Brooke Ochsner, but that would be as close as the Tigers would get. With the loss Hastings season comes to an end with a record of 5-16. McCook with the victory is now 10-11 going into Tuesday night's game with the Northwest.
