Buckle Up, Every Trip, Every Time Results

Grand Island Police Car 1

The Grand Island Police Department was awarded $4,936.48 to carry our Selective Overtime Enforcement for the Buckle Up, Every Trip, Every Time mobilization campaign from Nov. 22nd to Nov. 26th.  This enforcement was set to target seatbelt usage to help reduce fatal and serious injury crashes in Nebraska, Hall County, and Grand Island.

During this 5 day operational period, all day on the Nov. 22nd through all day Nov. 26th, the Grand Island Police Department conducted 222 traffic stops.  This resulted in citations being issued for 118 various violations and 119 violations where a warning/correction was issued.  During this same time frame, multiple people were arrested for 53 various violations (criminal & traffic), some of which were attributed to the same person.

Proactive enforcement by officers of the Grand Island Police Department and grant funding opportunities by the NE Dept. of Highway Safety, made this possible.  During these same 5 days with all the extra out of town traffic coming into town for shopping and holiday gatherings, we responded to 6 property damage accidents, 6 hit & run accidents, and 3 personal injury accidents.
