AUGUST 23, 2018 (NORTH PLATTE, NEB.) — Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) have arrested a man following a report of a sexual assault at a gas station just off of Interstate 80 in Lincoln County.
At approximately 10:00 p.m. Monday, August 21, troopers responded to a gas station at mile marker 179, near North Platte, upon a report from an adult female that a man had assaulted her while they were traveling in a vehicle. The suspect had left the scene before troopers arrived.
About an hour later, the vehicle was located by the Deuel County Sheriff’s Office at a truck stop in Big Springs. The suspect was not with the vehicle, but troopers were able to locate the suspect a short time later.
Robert Hall, 61, of Gulfport, Mississippi, was arrested for 3rd degree sexual assault, making terroristic threats, and attempted 1st degree sexual assault. He was lodged in Lincoln County Jail.
AUGUST 20, 2018 (NORTH PLATTE, NEB.) — Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP), along with the North Platte Police Department, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, and Nebraska Game and Parks, have arrested a man wanted in connection with multiple pursuits in the past week.
On Saturday, August 18, NSP responded to a report of a stolen vehicle near Sutherland. While investigating, authorities were able to identify the suspect as Shane Melton, 30, of North Platte. Melton had reportedly been involved in multiple pursuits with law enforcement recently.
Just after 10:00 a.m. Sunday, August 19, troopers were able to locate Melton and a stolen Dodge Ram pickup west of Lake Maloney, south of North Platte. Melton fled and led troopers on a pursuit, which was called off as the truck drove through fences and pasture. Multiple citizen reports then placed the truck at a residence on the 7000 block of West Buckboard Road.
NSP SWAT was called in to assist, as troopers had received information that Melton was possibly armed. SWAT conducted a search of the area and was able to take Melton into custody without further incident at approximately 3:30 p.m.
Melton was lodged in Lincoln County Jail on four outstanding warrants and additional charges of driving under suspension, possession of a stolen vehicle, flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, obstruction, criminal trespassing, and criminal mischie
On June 7th at about 7:30 PM Sergeant Wangler and another Officer responded to the residence located at 3410 16th Street in Columbus regarding an anonymous report that a wanted individual was at that location. In the course of the contact with the Suspect; 24 year old Jorje Robledo, a gunfight ensued. Initially, during the conflict, Robledo was armed with a handgun. As the situation developed, Robledo transitioned to a rifle. Both Wangler and Robledo were shot during the exchange and received multiple gunshot wounds.
Both Wangler and Robledo were initially taken to the Columbus Community Hospital and later to the University of Nebraska Medical Center by medical helicopter. Wangler is currently in stable condition, however he will require additional surgery relating to a wound in his neck. Robledo remains in critical condition.
Sergeant Wangler is a 19 year veteran of the Columbus Police. He is married and has two children.
